Use Case and Smart Score Based On

When creating a new Collection, what do these two fields mean?

When you are creating Collections, not only can you provide your Collection a name, an icon, assign it to a folder, and provide a description, but you can now prescribe a use case and what to base the Smart Sort Score on! So what does this all mean...

Workflow Step

We want to predict content performance based on similarities of content in a Collection that is similar to content in another Collection, or the entire account. This is the use case for you.

Great examples of using this use case:

  • I need to curate content that is similar to previously curated content and has performed well

    • I need to send the content I'm suggesting to compliance before it goes "live" to my advocates

Set your Collection’s use case to “Workflow Step.” Then set “Smart Score Based On” to Collection and select the live Collection. This will rank new content based on how similar it is to what’s already in the live Collection that has performed well previously.

  • I need to view content that is similar to other pieces that have been curated to any Collection within my account that has performed well in the past

Set your Collection’s use case to “Workflow Step.” Then set “Smart Score Based On” to Account. When you use the Smart Filter, the content will be ranked by how similar it is to high-performing articles across your entire account.

You have two options to base your Smart Score on here: Account and Collection.

Outbound Destination

When we are directing content from a Collection to an integration, a gallery, or any outbound source, you will want to select Outbound Destination as the use case.

Great examples of using this use case:

  • I need to curate the best content for my advocates to share via their own social profiles

    • I am approving the content, and I need to see how the curated content in this Collection is similar to another Collection's past performance

Set your Collection’s use case to “Outbound Destination.” Then set “Smart Score Based On” to Collection and choose the Collection you want it to reference. This lets the system use the performance of similar content from that selected Collection to influence how your outbound content is ranked when you sort by Smart.

  • I need to ensure the content on my website is the best possible content being automatically added to my Collection

    • The Smart filter will be based on how similar the content being curated is to the content that has previously been curated to this Collection.

You would set your Collection use case to "Outbound Destination". Set your "Smart Score Based On" to Self. This will allow the Collection to rank content based upon similarities to content's performance that have previously been curated to this Collection.

  • I need to use content that is similar to other pieces that have been curated to any Collection within my account that has performed well in the past

Set your Collection’s use case to “Outbound.” Then set “Smart Score Based On” to Account. When you use the Smart Filter, the content will be ranked by how similar it is to high-performing articles across your entire account.

You have three options to base your Smart Score on: Self, Account, Collection

Some Definitions

Use Case

  • Workflow Step

    • Collection is internal and part of content workflows, e.g., compliance workflows, filtration, sourcing external content such as RSS feeds, etc.

  • Outbound Destination

    • Collection sends content to external destinations, e.g,. integrations, galleries, etc. These Collections are used to calculate Smart Scores

Smart Score Based On

  • Self

    • Base score on how the content is expected to perform for only this Collection's outbound destinations

  • Account

    • Base score on how the content is expected to perform across all outbound destinations for your account.

  • Collection

    • Base score on how the content is expected to perform when it's sourced to a specific Collection (that has its own outbound destinations).
